Pakistan: A court in Lahore has ordered Pakistan police to abandon their attempt to apprehend former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The order came after a high-stakes drama on Lahore’s streets, when police laid siege to Imran Khan’s home in order to arrest him.
Throughout the night, police engaged in pitched battles with Mr Khan’s supporters, firing tear gas and dodging rocks thrown by enraged crowds.
Today afternoon, groups of police were seen running in disarray from the direction of the house.
The 70-year-old politician and cricket legend is wanted in connection with the Toshakhana corruption case. He was convicted last year of illegally selling gifts he received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as Prime Minister. Mr Khan was served with an arrest warrant after he failed to appear for his summons.

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday ordered the authorities not to arrest former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan until 10 a.m. on Thursday, putting an end to the ongoing police operation at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn News, the Lahore High Court has stopped the ongoing police operation until 10 a.m. Thursday, after a day-long escalation between PTI supporters and law enforcement agencies outside Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence.

On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court intervened as Pakistan Rangers and police officers closed in on ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s residence to arrest him in a corruption case. However, following the high court order, they began to retreat, eliciting cheers and celebrations from his supporters. According to sources, police will not enter Khan’s Zaman Park residence and no arrests will be made until 10 a.m. on Thursday.
