Guwahati Railway Station: On Friday, a Transgender tea stall was opened at Guwahati Railway Station to empower the transgender community.
The ‘Trans tea stall,’ a Northeast Frontier Railway initiative, is the first of its kind to open in any railway station in the country, and it was done with the active collaboration of the All Assam Transgender Association, according to top railway officials.
The Trans Tea Stall tea stall opened in Guwahati’s Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Office compound.

The Guwahati Railway Station has become the first in India to have a tea stall run solely by transgender people.
On March 10, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) general manager Anshul Gupta inaugurated the stall, which was set up in collaboration with the All Assam Transgender Association.
“On Friday, Anshul Gupta, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, inaugurated the “Trans tea stall” at Guwahati railway station platform number 1 in the presence of Swati Bidhan Baruah, Associate Vice Chairman of the Transgender Welfare Board of Assam,” Sabyasachi De, NF Railway’s CPRO, said.

The initiative is part of the center’s comprehensive Transgender scheme, “Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise,” which includes a sub-scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Transgender Welfare.
Northeast Frontier Railway intends to operate more Trans tea Stalls at other railway stations throughout the region.
He stated that NF Railway intends to open more tea stalls at other railway stations in the region.
Swati Bidhan Baruah, associate vice chairman of the Assam Transgender Welfare Board, expressed hope that more trans people will be rehabilitated in the coming days through various government programmes.
