Assam: Guwahati GMC chief engineer caught red handed taking bribe

Assam: On March 22, vigilance and anti-corruption department sleuths caught the chief engineer of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) red-handed accepting a bribe.

The GMC chief engineer, Indrajit Bora, was apprehended while accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 from the complainant.

On charges of accepting a bribe, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell arrested a Lat Mandal in Assam’s Hajo.

The anti-corruption cell team cornered and arrested the Lat Mandal at the office of the Hajo Revenue Circle officer.

Tankeswar Nath, the arrested Lat Manadal, has been identified. He was apprehended while accepting a Rs 4,000 bribe from the complainant.

Meanwhile, the ADGP of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell of Assam informing this through Twitter, wrote, “Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed and arrested Sh Tankeswar Nath, Lat Mandal, O/O Circle Officer, Hajo Revenue Circle immediately after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for conversion of his ceiling land to Miyadi Patta.”

Earlier on March 3, an Assam Police Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) team arrested a Senior Assistant of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies. The accused was apprehended in Khanapara, Guwahati, after he was caught accepting bribes.

 

The accused, Bidyadhar Das, was caught accepting bribes in exchange for processing a pension file. The victim brought the complaint to the V&AC team’s attention after reporting the incident and testifying against Das in front of witnesses.

In 2022, Assam’s vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths apprehended a state government Joint Secretary while accepting a bribe.

KK Sharma, the arrested official, has been identified.

He was apprehended while accepting Rs 90,000 from a complainant for the renewal of a security firm licence.

 

The Assam government has maintained its anti-corruption campaign, which is led by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, which is led by GP Singh, Special DGP. From May 10, 2021 to October 19, 2022, 41 cases were registered, with a total of 40 cases filed until October 19, 2022.
