Ponniyin Selvan 2 teaser: On April 28, 2023, the second instalment of Mani Ratnam’s ambitious Ponniyin Selvan franchise will be released. Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 by Mani Ratnam was one of the highest-grossing films in the Tamil film industry in 2023. Fans are now eagerly anticipating the sequel’s release. According to trade reports, the sequel to the superhit film will be released on April 28 in multiple languages.


Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 was released in five languages on September 30. The film had a phenomenal theatrical run in Tamil Nadu as well as on the international circuit.
The first instalment ended on a cliffhanger, with a glimpse of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Oomai Rani. Since then, fans have been anticipating the second instalment with bated breath. Lyca Productions took to social media on December 28 to provide an update on the sequel.

Sharing a promo, the official Twitter handle of Lyca Productions, wrote, “Open the gates as we proudly march towards #PS2. Dropping an exciting announcement today at 4 PM! (sic).”

Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s literary novel of the same name. Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi star in the lead roles. In supporting roles, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Jayaram, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and others were seen.

The technical team includes composer AR Rahman, cinematographer Ravi Varman, and editor Sreekar Prasad. The first instalment is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.

Ponniyin Selvan: I was a huge box office success upon its initial release. The period drama broke several box office records, grossing over Rs 500 crore at the box office and becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022. It also became the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, as well as the fifteenth-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s eponymous novel from 1995.
