Jiah Khan Death Case Verdict: Actor Sooraj Pancholi acquitted of abetment charges in Jiah Khan suicide case. A special CBI court here issue its ruling on Friday in the suicide case of Bollywood actor Jiah Khan, in which her boyfriend and movie star Sooraj Pancholi has been charged with abetment, nearly ten years after she was discovered hanging at her house.

In July 2014, the CBI took over the investigation from the Maharashtra Police at the Bombay High Court’s direction. According to Rabia, Sooraj Pancholi was aggressive towards her daughter. Dating began between Jiah and Sooraj in September 2012.

Based on a letter that was allegedly written by the 25-year-old actor and confiscated on June 10, Sooraj Pancholi is accused of aiding Jiah Khan’s death. The Mumbai Police have charged Pancholi under section 306 (abettement to suicide) and have detained him.
Son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, Sooraj is rumoured to have dated Jiah. Rabia Khan, Jiah’s mother, claimed that her daughter had been murdered. Rabia filed a petition with the Bombay High Court in October 2013 asking for a CBI investigation into the issue and asserting that her daughter had been murdered.
On June 3, 2013, Jiah (25), a resident of the United States, was discovered dead in her Juhu home. On the basis of a six-page letter allegedly written by the Bollywood starlet, police later detained Sooraj Pancholi and charged him with aiding suicide in accordance with IPC section 306.
According to IPC Section 306, “whoever assists in the commission of such suicide shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.” In the case, Sooraj Pancholi is currently free on bond.
The Mumbai police, who initially looked into the issue, had seized a letter that the CBI claimed was authored by Jiah Khan.
