Assembly Elections 2023: Nagaland and Meghalaya will conduct polls on February 27 while Tripura will vote on February 16. The results will be announced on March 2.

The first round of assembly elections, which will take place in 2023, saw the Election Commission announce on Wednesday the dates for the elections for the Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura assemblies. On February 16, the Tripura Assembly election of 2023 will take place, while February 27 will see voting in Nagaland and Meghalaya. Chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the exam season was taken into consideration when setting the election dates. Women have always participated heavily in voting in all three of these states, according to CEC, who spoke at the first press conference of the year to announce the schedule of these three states.

Tripura’s deadline for submitting nominations is January 30, and the date on which the gazette notification is published is January 21. February 2 is the final day for candidates to withdraw their applications. The gazette notification will be published in Meghalaya and Nagaland on January 31. Nominations must be submitted by February 7th.

On March 12, 15 and 25, respectively, the terms of the assemblies in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura will come to an end. In the three states, there will be 9,125 polling locations, which is 634 more than in 2018. There will be webcasting in 73% of the polling places. There will be 376 polling places run by women.

Conrad Sangma, a member of the National People’s Party, was elected chief minister of Meghalaya in 2018. His party had partnered with the BJP and regional parties. However, two National People’s Party lawmakers switched over to the BJP last month, months after Sangma had declared that his party would run unopposed.

In Tripura, the BJP defeated the Left Front government of 25 years to win a comfortable majority in the 2018 Assembly elections. The Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) announced their alliance to run together in the upcoming elections last week.
