Meghalaya: Over 21 lakh electors enrolled and 2 transgenders for 2023 Assembly polls

Meghalaya currently has 21,61,129 registered voters, with 10,68,801 males and 10,92,326 females, as well as 2 transgenders. There are also 3844 service electors.

At 10,92,326 students, female enrollment outnumbers male enrollment. As of 9.11.2022, the current electorate had grown by 2.36% over the draught rolls.

This is according to the Special Summary Revision (SSR) Electoral Rolls for 2023, which were published on January 5, 2023. The SSR-2023 began on November 9, 2022, with the State Level Launch of the Draft Publication of Electoral Rolls across the State.

Elections to the 60-member House Meghalaya Assembly are scheduled for February of this year.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor, there is a net increase of 2.36 percent in the current electorate over the draught rolls as of November 9, 2022, with women outnumbering men by 10,92,326. There are also 3844 service electors.

He also stated that 13,848 electors were removed from the electoral rolls due to reasons such as death or address change, and that 40,700 electors’ information was corrected in the revision.

On Thursday, the Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2023 electoral rolls will be published. On November 9, the state-level launch of the draught publication of electoral rolls kicked off the SSR-2023.

“During the recently concluded SSR exercise, 63,763 new electors applied for enrollment using Form 6. “However, the net addition after claims and objections hearings was 49,915,” the CEO stated.

The purity of the Electoral Roll is a major focus for the ECI, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor, and 13848 electors were removed from the Electoral Rolls for reasons such as death, address changes, and so on. This revision also updated information for 40700 voters.
