Assam Cabinet: 10,000 Bihu Dancers to perform for Guinness record

Assam Cabinet: The Assam Cabinet approved the decision on February 10 to allow 10,000 Bihu Dancers to perform on April 14, in an attempt to break a World Record in order to highlight Assam’s pride and heritage Bihu in the world court and mark it in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the event that day in Guwahati.

Assam minister Bimal Borah said, “The countdown begins to Assam’s rich cultural and traditional heritage being featured on the global centre stage and entering the Guinness Books of Records 10000 Bihu Dancers (3000 Dhuliyas, pepua and Taliyas and 7000 nasoni) performing in synchronised unison at Sarusajai Stadium on the 14th of April 2023, thereby creating a world record and adding even more colour to the Rongali Bihu 2023 celebrations”.

 

On January 30, the state cabinet announced that the government was considering entering the state festival ‘Bihu’ into the Guinness Book of World Records.

“We are planning to take Assam’s Bihu to a global state,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said to the media.

Furthermore, the CM stated that in order to make ‘Bihu’ a Guinness World Record, the state government is considering assembling 10,000-15,000 Bihu artists and staging a grand Bihu show in April at the Sarusajai Stadium.

A four-member committee comprised of state minister Bimal Borah, Ranoj Pegu, Keshab Mahanta, and Jayanta Malla Baruah has been formed to oversee the entire preparation.

On January 30, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma promised an ambitious scheme for the ultimate protection, conversation, maintenance, and restoration of Sivasagar’s tangible heritage sites, including Rang Ghar, sattras, and monasteries.

PWD has submitted a project plan that includes the acquisition of 83 bighas of land to improve facilities at the iconic structure.
