The Assam Government has approved the adoption of “The Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Officers (Engineering) Service Rules, 2023” for individuals appointed to the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department’s Technical Wing.
The new rules proposed will apply to five technical cadres:
Junior Engineer
Assistant Engineer
Assistant Executive Engineer
Executive Engineer/Assistant Commissioner
Joint Commissioner
The Assam government has approved changes to an existing policy in order to attract global investment through customised incentives for megaproject implementation in the state.
The state Cabinet approved the Assam Industrial and Investment Policy (Amendment), 2023 at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday evening.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared details of the Cabinet decisions on Twitter, stated that the proposed amendment will provide tailored incentives for the implementation of mega projects, with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore and 200 permanent jobs, with all non-skilled/grade 3 and 4 employees coming from within the state.

The Cabinet also approved a Rs 150 crore Power Purchase Subsidy to Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to ease the burden on consumers.
This will enable APDCL to close the revenue gap claimed in the tariff petition and avoid a retail tariff increase in fiscal 2022-23.
The Cabinet also approved new service rules for those appointed to the Panchayat and Rural Development department’s technical wing.
The Assam Cabinet approved the decision on February 10 to allow 10,000 Bihu Dancers to perform on April 14, in an attempt to break a World Record in order to highlight Assam’s pride and heritage Bihu in the world court and mark it in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the event that day in Guwahati.
