October 30, is a day that will go down in Assam history as a black day because serial blasts occurred on this day in 2008, killing hundreds. Ranjan Daimary of the NDFB planned the serial bomb blasts in Ganeshguri, Panbazaar, Kachari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon.
A CBI Special Court has awarded life imprisonment to 10 people including National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chief Ranjan Daimary in the 2008 Assam bombings case.

On Tuesday, September 27, the Gauhati High Court sentenced Ranjan Daimary, the chairman of the extremist group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-R), to life in prison for orchestrating the deadly October 30, 2008 serial bomb blasts.
On the other hand, Ranjan Daimary, the founder and chairman of the now-defunct National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), was acquitted by a TADA court of murdering six members of a family in Assam in 1992 due to a lack of evidence a few months back.

Daimary is already serving a life sentence after being convicted in a case relating to the 2008 serial bomb blasts in Assam. In January 2019, a special CBI court convicted 15 people in the serial blasts case, with 10 receiving life sentences.
Meanwhile, The court convicted 14 of the accused on January 28, 2019, after the case was pending in a special CBI court for the last 10 years.
Those sentenced to life imprisonment are( 1) Ranjan Daimary, (2) George Boro, (3) Ajay Basumatary, (4) Rajendra Gayari, (5) Ansai Boro, (6) Khargeshwar Basumatary, (7) Lakhra Basumatary, (8) Indra Brahma, (9) Vaisagi Basumatary and (10) Raju Sarkar.
The four accused sentenced to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 3,000 each are Jayanti Brahma, (2) Mathuram Brahma, (3) Prabhat Boro, and (4) Neelim Daimary. Of these, Neelim Daimary was acquitted as his stipulated jail term had already been completed.
The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) demanded in January that former NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary, who is currently imprisoned, be released as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the ABSU has urged the central and Assam governments to expedite the implementation of the remaining Bodo Accord clauses. ABSU president Dipen Boro urged the Centre and the Assam government to expedite the implementation of the Bodo Accord.
Noticeably, clauses such as modifying Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) to Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), establishing Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council, announcing the Bodo language as an associate official language of Assam, establishing the Directorate of Bodo and other tribal languages, the provincial nation of Kokrajhar music and fine arts college, posting of DIG, attachment of deputy commissioner under the administrative control of BTR, have been implemented.
