The Guwahati city the capital of Assam was plunge into a chaos on 13th May due to the heavy rainfall in the early hour of the morning, which created artificial flood in many part of the city. It has bring traffic to halt and making the daily commuters impossible. Specially for the students and office goers.
Many roads in different part of the city was under several feet of water due to continuous rain. On the other hand due to the increased in the water level on the road, auto-rickshaw driver charged double the fair then usual which create another problem for the common man.
The unplanned expansion of the city to accumulate increasing population has lead to severe encroachment in the wetlands, low lying areas, hills and shrinkage of forest cover. These denuded hills and loss of wetlands thus lead to artificial floods and water logging. To mitigate the urban artificial flood in Guwahati a mission has been launched with the name “Mission Flood Free Guwahati” with all the allied departments and stakeholders. But it has not bring any changes to the problem that has been faced by the people of Guwahati every year.
