Dibrugarh University Ragging: Rahul Chetry, the main accused in the Dibrugarh University ragging incident, has been expelled with immediate effect from J.B. Law College in Guwahati.

The decision was made at the law college’s governing body meeting on Saturday.

Rahul Chetry was a J.B. Law College LLB third-semester student.

According to the college’s notice, “Rahul Chetry went to the Dibrugarh University and is alleged to be involved in the heinous activities of ragging junior students, causing both physical and mental grevious hurt.” The administration has already declared him an absconder, and he has yet to issue any paper or other type of statement defending himself.”

Notably, Anand Sharma, a first-semester university student, jumped from the third floor of a hostel building to avoid ragging. Rahul Chetry has been missing since the incident occurred.

On the other hand, 22 university students have been expelled for their alleged involvement in the case.

On Friday, the third day of the hearing by Dibrugarh University’s Anti-Ragging Committee, only one student appeared.

“Five students could not attend the hearing because they are in judicial custody,” said DU Registrar Paramananda Sonowal. The ARC is attempting to obtain permission from the appropriate authorities to hold their hearing in the jail.”

He stated that so far, 12 of the 17 students have appeared before the commission.

The Committee was formed on Wednesday to look into the possibility of lapses/deficiencies in dealing with ragging issues on the University campus.

Police in Dibrugarh has arrested five people in connection with the Dibrugarh University ragging incident.

Anand Sharma, the victim of the university ragging incident, underwent critical spinal surgery at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.

“We have arrested five people in connection with the case so far, and our search for nab Rahul Chetri and Kalyan Dutta is ongoing,” said Bitul Chetia, Additional SP.
