Bodo medium has been included in Higher Secondary levels in schools across the state, which is a new addition to the education sector in Assam.
Students in classes XI and XII can now study in Bodo and mixed mediums. On the other hand, according to an official notification issued by the Assam Department of School Education, “In the public interest and academic interest of students belonging to the Bodo community and other students inclined to study in Bodo medium, the Governor of Assam is pleased to accord necessary approval for the introduction of Bodo medium in the Higher Secondary Level consisting of classes XI and XII in the Bodo medium and Mixed (having Bodo medium) Higher Secondary Schools in the State.”

Meanwhile, The Assam Cabinet meeting, which was previously held in Kokrajhar in September, had seen the Assam Government make various decisions for various sectors. One of the key decisions made at this meeting was the introduction of the Bodo medium as a medium of study for Class XI and Class XII, as well as the establishment of mixed medium schools.
Another significant decision for the growth of the education sector was the elimination of the reservation process for appointing Bodo language professors, assistant professors, and associate professors. The government wanted qualified students to be able to apply for the position of Bodo language teacher.
On the other hand, Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, tweeted, “We took several major decisions pertaining to the development of BTR, police accountability, repeal of obsolete acts, new cultural university, sports varsity, and so on.”
In a review meeting held, on July 17, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed several issues in the fields of Elementary Education, Samagra Siksha, Adarsha Vidyalayas, and Technical and Secondary Education. The Chief Minister reviewed progress in e-office implementation, file disposal under Mission Sabdhavana, recruitment and promotion, school amalgamation, and school infrastructure enhancement.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also directed the education department to amalgamate schools within a set timeframe in accordance with RTE guidelines, to introduce English as a medium of instruction for Science and Mathematics from Class 6 to Class 12, and to continue teaching both subjects in Assamese. During Durga Puja, the minister also directed the implementation of a special Gyanjyoti program for students from 97 Tea Garden Adarsh Vidyalayas.
