Assam: Female cop raped by police constable in Dergaon, accused arrested

Assam: In Assam’s Golaghat district, a male police constable allegedly raped a female police officer at the Police Training Centre in Dergaon.

According to reports, on February 22, a female police trainee whose identity has not been revealed was admitted to a hospital on the training centre grounds due to illness.

Babul Bhuyan, a male police officer on duty at the time, allegedly raped the woman and then fled the scene at night. The victim reported the incident to higher authorities, but she claims that despite her complaints, senior officers did nothing.

The entire incident was only revealed on February 26 when the victim police officer collapsed while on morning duty.

At night, a male police constable on duty, identified as Babul Bhuyan, allegedly raped the woman and fled the scene. The victim reported the incident to higher authorities, but she claimed that despite her complaints, senior officers refused to take action.

The accused, constable Babul Bhuyan of the 9th battalion, was then detained by the Dergaon police.

According to sources, Bhuyan will appear in court on February 27.
The police have opened a case and are conducting an investigation into the incident under Section 376/201/506 of the Indian Penal Code.

 

A Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) court in Meghalaya sentenced a former police officer to life in prison last year for raping and threatening two minor sisters in 2013.

Nurul Islam, the accused, was sentenced to life in prison and fined Rs 8 lakh, which will be paid to the victims. Last week, he was convicted by the POSCO court.

Islam was found guilty under both the POCSO Act of 2012 and the IPC Act.

According to reports, Islam committed the crime while serving as the officer-in-charge of the Ampati police station in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district. On March 13 and 14, 2013, Islam raped a 14-year-old girl at the Ampati police station.
