Assam Earthquake: According to the National Center for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter Scale struck 23 kilometres south of Jorhat, Assam, in the early hours of Saturday.

Tremors were felt in the neighbouring regions, too. The Assam earthquake struck at around 9:03 am with a depth of 50 Km.

Taking to Twitter, the official account of the National Center for Seismology (NCS) wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 18-03-2023, 09:03:09 IST, Lat: 26.54 & Long: 94.23, Depth: 50 Km, Location: 23km S of Jorhat, Assam, India.”

 

However, no casualties or property destruction have been reported as of yet.

An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale jolted Assam early on Wednesday last week. The tremors were felt at 3:59 a.m. today, at a depth of 10 kilometres in the Kamrup district, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). There were no reports of property damage or loss of life as a result of the earthquake.

Assam: 3.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Guwahati

During the early hours of Wednesday on 8th March, a low-density earthquake of 3.2 magnitude struck Guwahati and parts of nearby cities.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake’s epicentre was Kamrup, and the tremors were felt at 03:59 a.m.

In a Twitter post, NCS wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 08-03-2023, 03:59:08 IST, Lat: 26.23 & Long: 91.44, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Kamrup, Assam, India .”

Two low-density earthquakes jolted two Northeastern states last month.

Initially, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck Manipur’s Noney in the early morning hours.

The earthquake tremor was felt around 2.46 a.m.

Previously, Dr N Purnachandra Rao, Chief Scientist of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), warned of an increased likelihood of a large earthquake in India in the near future.

Rao stated that the India plate is moving about five centimetres per year, causing stress to accumulate along the Himalayas, potentially resulting in an earthquake in Uttarakhand.
