Eleven government officials have been suspended in relation to the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-jobs scandal.

The Assam government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cash-for-job scam involving the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). Simultaneously, the SIT submitted a proposal to the government recommending the suspension of the implicated officers to ensure a fair investigation, resulting in the suspension of all the accused individuals.

The suspended individuals comprise officers belonging to the ACS and APS categories, namely Kalyan Kumar Das, Nandini Kakati, Faruk Ahmed, Dipankar Lahkar Dutta, Nitumoni Das, Rumir Timungpi, Kul Pradip Bhattacharya, Nilanjan Gogoi, Analjyoti Das, Shahjahan Sarkar, and Aishwarya Jivan Barua.

The suspension of the eleven officials is a result of their reported involvement as beneficiaries in the irregularities and malpractices conducted by the APSC during the competitive exams held in 2013.

Earlier today, authorities suspended four Assam Civil Services (ACS) officials before suspending these eleven officials.

They include Akashi Duwarah, Additional District Commissioner of Jorhat; Dhrubajyoti Hatibaruah, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Indigenous and Tribal Faith & Culture Department; Hitesh Mazumdar, Additional District Commissioner of South Salmara, Mankachar; and Dhiraj Kumar Jain, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Election Department & Joint CEO.

This brings the cumulative count of suspended officers for the day to 15.

The recent wave of official suspensions occurred as the government escalated its investigation into the APSC cash-for-jobs scandal. In response to the allegations that surfaced in connection with this sensational scam, authorities detained and questioned numerous officers.
