The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has apprehended their sixth suspect in connection with the cash-for-job scandal at the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) during 2013 and 2014.
As per preliminary information, the SIT apprehended Nanda Babu Singh, the former principal controller of the APSC examination, in Silchar. On Sunday, they subsequently transported him to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati.
Singh faces allegations of manipulating the scores of numerous candidates and destroying documents belonging to the APSC. Reportedy, he is a close aide of former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul.
Sources indicate that they presented both Singh and Paul before the special judicial court in Guwahati. The SIT has appealed to the court to grant them seven-day custody of the accused.
Simultaneously, the SIT has summoned Minerva Devi, Singh’s daughter and currently serving as ADC in Karimganj, to appear at the CID office on December 11.
Up to this point, the authorities have apprehended individuals including Sukanya Das, Wahida Begum, Rakesh Das, Shahjahan Sarkar, Aishwarya Jeevan Baruah, and Nanda Babu Singh in connection with the scam.
