Popular Front Of India (PFI): As the state’s crackdown on the Popular Front of India (PFI) continues, police arrested at least three members of the banned organization, along with a linked man, on October 21 in Assam’s Kamrup district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nazrul Islam, Hafizur Rahman, and Rafiqul Islam, all of whom are from Nagarbera; however, the alleged linkman Mominur Islam is from Chaygaon in the Kaumrup district.

Speaking to the media, “Three members of the banned PFI were arrested from the Nagarbera area after conducting a drive on October 20, night,” said Kamrup Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitesh Ch. Ray, “and another person who is also believed to be a linkman with PFI has been detained for further questioning.”

Earlier this month, over 170 people were detained and arrested across seven states for allegedly having ties to the PFI.
State police teams from Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh conducted the majority of the raids.
In NIA’s ‘largest ever’ raid, As many as 170 activists of the Popular Front of India were arrested. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, four PFI leaders i.e. PFI chairman OMA Salam, Kerala state chief CP Mohammed Basheer, national secy VP Nazarudheen & national council member Prof P Koya were taken into custody by NIA.
According to reports, The ED is looking into the PFI’s alleged “financial links” to the country’s anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests, the 2020 Delhi riots, an alleged conspiracy in Hathras (a district in Uttar Pradesh) over the alleged gang-rape and death of a Dalit woman, and a few other cases.
Popular Front of India is a militant and extremist Muslim organization that describes itself on Facebook as a group dedicated to achieving equal rights, justice, freedom, and security for all Indians.
The Popular Front Of India (PFI) has been barred from operating for the next five years due to alleged terrorist activities. According to the government, the PFI and its affiliate organizations have been declared an “unlawful association” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), citing the outfit’s links with the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), and the Islamic State or ISIS, and that the PFI is involved in several criminal and terror cases.

The action was taken under Criminal Procedure Code Section 151(3) in light of the recent crackdown on the PFI by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), according to senior police inspector Sardar Patil of Kondhwa police station.
