Guwahati: The government of Assam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bright Star Investments Pvt. Limited on Friday at Janata Bhawan in Dispur for the establishment of a second medical college in Guwahati.
Pragjyotishpur Medical College will be the city’s second medical college.

Taking to Twitter Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Our Govt has signed an MoU with Bright Star Investments Pvt Ltd for infra devp of the upcoming 2nd Medical College in Guwahati. I thank the company founded by eminent businessman & investor Shri Radhakishan Damani for its CSR contribution ₹150 cr for building the college.”
He further said, “We’ve initiated several partnerships in PPP mode so that private & public players can participate in the process of development of the region. I’m sure this PPP initiative will go a long way in enhancing medical education & research in the region.”

The proposed Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati’s second medical college, will cost nearly Rs 1,000 crore to build.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on the occasion, “The session of the new medical college in Guwahati will begin in 2024.”

“Within the next five years, there will be 24 medical colleges in the state, and after all of the medical colleges are built, there will be 2,700 MBBS seats,” he added.
Bright Start Investments Pvt. Limited will make a Rs. 150 crore investment in the medical college.
“The project is being implemented at a total cost of Rs 998.30 crore over a 20-acre area,” Sarma was quoted as saying by PTI. According to the Chief Minister, the new medical college will have two campuses, one in Panbazar and one in Kalapahar.
In honor of Assam’s glorious past, the institute would be named Pragjyotishpur Medical College. This new medical college would tremendously augment medical education & healthcare infra in the State.

According to the Chief Minister, the new medical college will significantly improve medical education and health infrastructure in the state. He claims that it will also meet the medical needs of Guwahati and the surrounding areas.
