WPL 2023 (Women’s Premier League): On March 4 (Saturday), the five-team Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) will kick off in Navi Mumbai. After years of waiting and planning, the BCCI has finally realised their long-held dream of establishing a standalone T20 franchise-based league for women along the lines of the massively popular Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), UP Warriorz (WPW), and Gujarat Giants are the five teams competing in the inaugural edition of the WPL (GG).

MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been named, while RCB’s women’s team will be led by opener Smriti Mandhana. Meg Lanning, Australia’s successful captain, will captain the Delhi Capitals, while Beth Mooney will captain the Gujarat Giants. Alyssa Healy, an Australian wicketkeeper and batter, leads UPW in the WPL 2023.

 

The tournament final is scheduled for March 26. The first match, between MI and GG, begins at 7.30 p.m. IST.

WPL 2023 Opening Ceremony Date, Venue & Time

The first match in the WPL 2023 will begin at 7.30 p.m. IST on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The opening ceremony will start two hours earlier, at 5.30 p.m. IST. At 4 p.m. IST, the gates will open.

WPL 2023 Opening Ceremony: Performers And Guests

The BCCI has already announced that Bollywood actresses Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon, as well as rapper and singer AP Dhillon, will perform at the Women’s Premier League opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, singer Shankar Mahadevan will perform and sing the WPL anthem. In terms of the guest list, expect high-profile Maharashtra politicians as well as top B-Town celebrities to attend. BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny will undoubtedly be present, as will other BCCI officials.
