Hockey World Cup 2023: The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 is being held in Odisha, India, from January 13 to 29. The host cities are Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

India will kick off its World Cup campaign on the first day of the tournament against Spain in Pool D.

This prestigious quadrennial event, which is being held in India for the second time in a row, has 16 teams competing. Four groups of sides are formed. The 15th edition of the Hockey World Cup will feature 44 matches spread across 17 days.

Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 matches will be broadcast on India’s Star Sports Network.

On Wednesday evening, the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 began with a ceremony at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium (January 11). Thousands of hockey fans from across the country and abroad attended the event. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik officially launched the Hockey World Cup 2023.

Belgium is the defending champion, having defeated the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout in Bhubaneswar in 2018. Australia finished third after defeating England 8-1 in the third-place match. India was knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The 16 teams, divided into four pools, play three games in the round-robin phase, with the group winner advancing directly to the quarter-finals. The second and third-placed teams in each group compete in a crossover round, with the winners joining the other four in the knockout round.
