Eintracht Frankfurt won the Europa league by beating Rangers in Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final in Seville.
Frankfurt, who also won this tournament when it was called the UEFA Cup in 1980, had to come from behind before winning in a penalty shootout.
Midfielder Joe Aribo, , gave the Scottish side the lead on 57 minutes. Ranger lead lasted only 12 minutes as Rafael Santos Borre levelled for the Bundesliga outfit in the 69 minutes to force the game into extra time.
Kevin Trapp who spent four years in PSG and loaned back to Frankfurt in 2018-19 season and make his permanent switch in 2019 make a superb saved in 118 minutes to deny Ryan Kent from point-blank range.
Trapp was again Frankfurt’s hero in the shootout, saving a spot-kick from Aaron Ramsey to help his side prevail 5-4.
Frankfurt had knocked out Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham on their way to the final.
Their victory in the final saw them for champion league next season despite having finished 11th in Germany’s Bundesliga.
