Pramila Das, a 32- year old woman athlete hailing from Assam’s Pookhuripar village of Barapujia near Raha, has brought honour to her community by winning a Bronze medal at the 22nd Asia Masters Athletics Championships.
The championship was held in the New Clark City stadium in the Philippines from November 8 to 12, where Pramila bagged a Bronze medal in the 800- metre running race.
Being the wife of a daily wage labourer and a mother to an 18-year-old son, Pramila has reserved national and local pride by achieving a medal in the international championship. Her remarkable performance at this stage in her life has surprised the residents in her locality.
“I won a medal in this game with just determination and strong will. My family couldn’t financially support my preparation, but the people in our village helped me a lot. With their support, I overcame all obstacles,” she shared with the media.
“The championship in the Philippines was amazing. Athletes from many countries joined. Seeing them motivating me, I’ll keep running as much as I can,” Pramila added.
Moreover, Pramila also bagged several gold medals in different championships held in various locations of the country.
