Tata Motors signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ride-sharing app Uber on Monday, February 20, under which the latter will introduce approximately 25,000 XPRES-T Tata Motor Electric Vehicles (EVs) into their premium category service.

Uber said in a statement that Tata Motors will help it electrify its services in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the two companies, Uber will use the electric sedans in its premium category service, according to a joint statement.

It was also stated that the electric fleet would be operational in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad.

Starting this month, the Mumbai-based automaker will begin delivering the cars to Uber fleet partners in stages.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed by the companies.

The price of a single XPRES-T starts at Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

A single X-Pres-T (ex-showroom) with a range of 315 km costs Rs 14.98 lakh and comes with a Rs 2.6 lakh FAME subsidy.

Tata Motors launched the ‘XPRES’ brand exclusively for fleet customers in July 2021, with the XPRES-T EV being the first vehicle under this brand. The new XPRES-T electric sedan is available in two ranges: 315 km and 277 km.

The XPRES-T battery has a high energy density of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh and can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively, using fast charging or can be charged normally from any 15 A plug point, which is easily accessible and convenient.

The transportation industry is rapidly electrifying its fleet.

Ola’s founder and CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, recently stated that the company intends to launch an EV fleet of 10,000 vehicles.

BluSmart, an electric vehicle cab service that raised approximately $25 million in a combination of equity and debt funding in May 2022, is also expanding its fleet services.

Tata Motors, for example, signed a deal with BluSmart Electric Mobility in 2022 to deliver 10,000 XPRES-T electric vehicles to the company.
