On January 22, Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi condemned the attacks and acts of damage against Congressmen Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Bhupen Borah while they were participating in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Sonitpur, Assam.
The United Opposition Forum, led by Akhil Gogoi, strongly condemned the attack on the Congress leaders during a press conference, saying that it painted a disgraceful image of Assam.
Furthermore, the resignation of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been asked by Akhil Gogoi on behalf of the United Opposition Forum. saying that the chief minister is equally accountable for failing to maintain law and order during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra if the incident was carried out without CM Sarma’s knowledge.
When criticising the BJP-led Assam government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s administration is acting more like a Hitler dictatorship than a jungle raj, according to Akhil Gogoi. “The nation is operating under an unofficial emergency. The general public is not protected. Thus, we demand CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation since he has failed to uphold law and order in the state and to ensure security,” Gogoi continued.
For those who are unaware, on Sunday, January 21, during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam’s Sonitpur district, general secretary Jairam Ramesh’s car was attacked and Assam Congress head Bhupen Kumar Borah was allegedly beaten. The party claimed that a BJP MLA and his followers were involved in the attack on Borah and requested a judicial investigation.
