Three young people from the same village tragically passed away in a serious car accident at Kaliabor in the Nagaon district of Assam on Thursday night.
Three individuals, Arjun Toti, Amrit Biswas, and Rahul Biswas, were driving towards Missmari when their Mahindra Varito, licenced under the registration number ‘AS-12J-6909,’ went out of control and landed in a ditch next to the four-lane highway.
The severe fog that prevented the motorist from seeing well is thought to be the cause of the collision. Sadly, all three of them died on the spot.
This tragic incident happened shortly after the Dergaon tragedy earlier this month, in which a truck carrying coal collided with a bus carrying 45 picnickers, resulting in at least 12 deaths on January 3. The drivers of the two vehicles were instantly dead. Critically injured patients were referred to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), while the injured were rushed to Dergaon Civil Hospital. Many others have also been injured in this incident.
The accident occurred due to dense fog, as reported. It is revealed that the collision took place when the truck, travelling from Margherita towards Tinsukia’s Tilinga Mandir, confronted the bus heading towards Tinsukia. The incident was indeed alarming, causing severe damage to a portion of the passenger bus in this foggy weather. Locals alleged that the accident took place due to the slow pace of construction work on the national highway.
Accidents have been reported on the national highway on several occasions. Therefore, this consecutive incident calls for a thorough investigation and these tragedies highlight how urgently fog and visibility conditions need to be assessed in order to improve road safety.
