Three more persons lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Assam on Thursday (July 14).
Out of the three deaths on Thursday, one death each was reported from Darrang, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.
With these deaths, a total of 19 persons have lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis in the state since July 1.
Further, 23 new cases of JE were detected across various districts on Thursday.
So far, 144 cases of JE have been reported in Assam since July 1.
According to TOI, health officials said that mostly rural areas that still remain flooded and located close to paddy fields, where pig-rearing is rampant, are affected by JE.
“Pig is the amplifying host of the JE virus, while wild birds are considered the reservoir host for the virus,” the official added
