In NIA’s ‘largest ever’ raid, As many as 106 activists of the Popular Front of India were arrested. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, four PFI leaders i.e. PFI chairman OMA Salam, Kerala state chief CP Mohammed Basheer, national secy VP Nazarudheen & national council member Prof P Koya were taken into custody by NIA.
Till now, NIA, ED along with state police have arrested more than 100 cadres of PFI. The maximum number of arrests were made in Kerala (22) followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka (20 each), Andhra Pradesh (5), Assam (9), Delhi (3), Madhya Pradesh (4), Puducherry (3), Tamil Nadu (10), Uttar Pradesh (8) and Rajasthan (2).

According to reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chairs a meeting with officials including NSA, Home Secy, DG NIA on raids by NIA on PFI. NIA sealed the Telangana PFI head office in Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad in connection with a case registered earlier by NIA. NIA, ED, Paramilitary along with local police sealed the PFI office.

According to reports, The ED is looking into the PFI’s alleged “financial links” to the country’s anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests, the 2020 Delhi riots, an alleged conspiracy in Hathras (a district in Uttar Pradesh) over the alleged gang-rape and death of a Dalit woman, and a few other cases.

The “largest ever” crackdown till date carried out raids in ten states, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, The Assam Police have arrested nine people associated with PFI across the state. According to a senior police official, Assam police and the NIA jointly launched the operation in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati last night and detained 9 people associated with PFI across the state.
