On November 22, Assam Minister Ranjit Kumar Das asserted that those who presented Saleng Chador to AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal bear the responsibility for their actions.
Minister Ranjit Kumar Das, addressing the Seleng controversy with reporters, questioned the act of Assamese individuals presenting Seleng to Badruddin Ajmal.
He expressed the belief that those offering Seleng to Ajmal are to blame, highlighting Ajmal’s perceived lack of engagement in socio-cultural aspects shared with other communities in Assam over the years. An FIR has been filed against Badruddin Ajmal, the leader of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), in connection with the controversy involving the disposal of the revered ‘Saleng Chadar,’ a symbol of profound respect in Assamese culture.
During a public rally in Laharighat, Morigaon district, Ajmal threw away the Saleng Chadar draped over his shoulder openly and on stage in front of the audience.
Following the controversy, the AIUDF has faced criticism from various segments of society, with numerous individuals denouncing Ajmal’s actions as disgraceful and disrespectful. Some have called for the arrest of the perfume baron in response.
