According to ACA sources, Devajit Lon Saikia, Advocate General of Assam and Secretary of Assam Cricket Association, filed his nomination for the post of Joint Secretary at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, October 11.
In the meantime, if Saikia is elected, the position of ACA Secretary will be unoccupied, and Tridip Konwar is expected to fill it.
According to sources, former Indian cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Roger Binny is expected to be the next BCCI President, succeeding Sourav Ganguly, and BJP MLA Ashish Shelar is expected to be the Treasurer, succeeding Arun Dhumal.

On the other hand, in 2021, Devajit Saikia was appointed as the 18th Advocate General of Assam. Devajit Saikia, who served as Vice-President of the Assam Cricket Association from 2016 to 2019, and as Secretary of the Gauhati Town Club from June 29, 2008 to the present, began his career with the NF Railways (August 1989-July 1991), followed by a long tenure with the Reserve Bank of India (1991-1996).

According to reports, Devajit Saikia began his legal career as a lawyer at the Gauhati High Court in 1997. He was appointed as the Standing Counsel to the Government of Assam in 2006 to oversee the Departments of Health, Taxation, and Education after quickly gaining acclaim as a lawyer. Saikia added another feather to his hat when he was appointed Additional Advocate General of Meghalaya in September 2009 and served in that capacity until September 2011, when he was appointed Additional Advocate General of Assam from July 10, 2011 to November 30, 2014. He was appointed as a Senior Advocate of the Gauhati High Court on August 10, 2014, at the age of 44.

Saikia, who has also represented India in the Advocate Cricket World Cups in Australia in 2015 and Sri Lanka in 2017, and the Indian Lawyers Cricket Team in the United Kingdom, West Indies, and Sri Lanka in 2005, 2006, and 2004, was also the Senior Additional Advocate General, Assam from July 10, 2016 to January 6, 2019. From April 6, 2017 to May 11, 2017, he served as the Advocate General of Assam (In-Charge). He has also attended law seminars in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Sri Lanka.
