Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, to preserve the Assamese culture, announced on Sunday that the state government will implement legislation to limit land acquisition in specific regions of the state.
Speaking at the Swahid Divas event in Paschim Boragaon, CM Sarma underscored the significance of preserving Assamese culture. He stressed that it is imperative for both the government and communities to initiate efforts that contribute to this crucial cause.
It is our moral obligation to ensure that our land remains with us and we do not sell it to illegal immigrants. This is one of the greatest service we can do for our motherland.#SwahidDiwas pic.twitter.com/73buxiUUcj

CM Sarma raised concerns about Assamese families selling land to immigrant Muslims from Bangladesh, noting that in Lower and Central Assam, many have done so for financial reasons.
While acknowledging the freedom to sell, he expressed that every piece of land lost by the Assamese prompts a moral reflection on handing over sacred land to those against whom they have protested, merely for monetary gain.
The chief minister’s announcement revealed the implementation of a groundbreaking law to restrict land acquisition in designated areas such as Majuli, Batadrava, and Barpeta, among others. This legislation will guarantee that only individuals of Assamese origin can obtain land in these regions.
