Assam: No more car-o-bar, Those caught will face a fine of Rs 5,000

The Excise Department of Assam is implementing stringent measures to curb traffic law violations and the nuisance of public drinking, including hefty fines and potential imprisonment. Those caught drinking alcohol in public places, including roadside locations, moving vehicles, and parked cars, will face a fine of Rs 5,000. Additionally, creating a nuisance in public spaces could lead to a three-month jail term and a Rs 10,000 fine.

The crackdown extends beyond public spaces to include individuals found drinking inside parked vehicles. Furthermore, if the driver of the vehicle is intoxicated, they can be booked under the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988.
