In a big announcement, Anand Mishra, an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) belonging to Assam- Meghalaya Cadre (2011 RR Batch) and currently serving as the Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur, has submitted his unconditional resignation from the IPS, effective from January 16, 2024.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, SP Mishra wrote, “This is to submit my unconditional resignation w.e.f 16-01-2024 from the Indian Police Service (IPS) to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS”.
A governor’s notification earlier stated that Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, IPS Anand Mishra (RR-2011), and Superintendent of Police (Border-II), APS Randeep Kumar Baruah (DR-1993), were made available to the Manipur government to assume command of the SITs established for Manipur incidents promptly.
The Assam police has assigned both of the state’s top cops to support the Manipur government in its investigation of the Manipur violence cases. Notably, the order complied with instructions issued by the Supreme Court of India in Special Leave Petition (SLP) Civil Dairy No. 19206 of 2023, which was decided on August 7, 2023.
As one of the best police officers in the state, IPS Mishra is well-known for his unwavering combat against drug trafficking, cattle smuggling, robbery, and other crimes.
He has millions of fans on the internet, and the locals greatly admire him for his modesty and grounded nature. He gained fame unexpectedly after being appointed Superintendent of Police and moved from Dhubri to Nagaon.
Rumours are surfing around that SP Mishra is likely to contest for Lok Sabha election. However this has not been cleared by Mishra yet.
