Assam: The Assam government officially entered the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday with the largest online photo album of handwritten notes on Lachit Barphukan. The certificate was presented to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Guwahati’s Janata Bhawan.

In November 2022, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged people to light earthen lamps at home to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, a 17th-century war hero, on November 24.

Lachit Borphukan was an important player in the 1671 ‘Battle of Saraighat’ on the Brahmaputra, which prevented a long-term attempt by Mughal forces led by Raja Ramsingh-I to recapture Assam.
To commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of the great Ahom army general, the Assam government has also launched a mobile app and a web portal.
According to officials, the portal and mobile application were created so that people in Assam and beyond, including foreign countries, could express their gratitude to Lachit Barphukan through write-ups and essays.
