After a state cabinet session, the Assam Government revealed plans to construct approximately 130,000 homes as part of the Mukhymantri Awas Yojana scheme.

This endeavour aims to supplement the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) by concentrating on individuals who have not availed benefits from the central government’s program. The state cabinet made this decision in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during Thursday evening’s session.

Moreover, approximately 1,540 landless indigenous households across 13 districts in the state, encompassing both urban and rural areas, will be beneficiaries of land settlement benefits. This action is part of the state government’s Mission Basundhara 2.0 initiative, which aims to facilitate land settlement for indigenous households without land. The 13 districts include Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Charaideo, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Darrang, Bongaigaon, Biswanath, Goalpara, Nalbari, Hojai, and Bajali.

Furthermore, the government has sanctioned 128 proposals for allocations to NGOs/societies and 96 proposals for allocations to different government institutions. The inclusive strategy embraced by the Assam cabinet underscores a dedication to resolving the longstanding land-related concerns of indigenous communities.
