Assam Cabinet: At least four districts in Assam will be combined with other existing districts. The state cabinet took the decision on Saturday in Delhi.

The judgement was made in accordance with the delimitation procedure that began following the Election Commission’s (EC) decision to begin delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in Assam in accordance with Section 8A of the RP Act, 1950.

  • Bajali with Barpeta district
  • Biswanath with Sonitpur district
  • Hojai with Nagaon district
  • Tamulpur with Baksa district

The four districts listed above will be subdivided.

The meeting agreed to incorporate the North Guwahati Town Committee into the Kamrup Metropolitan District.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised to the public and stated that the decision was only temporary.

In each of the four districts, four Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) will be appointed.

Furthermore, the cabinet stated that officers will not be changed until January 5

On January 3, the Assam Gaurav and Assam Saurav awards will be presented.

Beginning February 5, the second phase of ‘A Fortnight for Development’ will begin.

Meanwhile, the court and district police forces will stay unchanged.

On December 27, the European Commission issued a revised delimitation of 126 assembly and 14 parliamentary seats, as well as a ban on the creation of new administrative units, effective January 1. While there would be no increase in seats as a result of delimitation, certain constituency borders would be modified.

The chief minister stated that boundaries in 14 areas would be redrawn for administrative purposes. While he did not provide specifics on all of these locations, he did state that the municipal area of North Guwahati, which is currently in the Kamrup (Rural) district, will now be included in the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district.
