In a noteworthy development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed on Wednesday that Swapna Bania will assume the role of the new president of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Assam. This move follows the relief of Angoorlata Deka from her position as the current president of the Mahila Morcha.
Angoorlata Deka is an Indian Assamese actress and politician from the state of Assam. She is a first term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly. She joined BJP in December 2015.
Angoorlata defeated Congress candidate and ruling MLA Goutam Bora in Batradava LAC. Bora has ruled the constituency consecutively for the last 15 years.
Interestingly, the BJP had given tickets to only six female candidates out of which only two won elections and Angoorlata Deka is one of them.
Swapna Bania, formerly the vice president of BJP’s SC Morcha, has been appointed to lead the party’s women’s wing.
Concurrently, Angoolata Deka communicated with the public via social media, disclosing that stepping down from her position was prompted by her commitment to personal responsibilities towards the party. Grateful for the party’s understanding, Deka acknowledged the decision, underscoring its connection to her personal obligations.
In her statement, the departing president conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Swapna Bania, the recently appointed State President of Mahila Morcha.
