Assam: The Punjab Police escorted ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, who was captured early Sunday morning from Rode village in Moga, to the Air Force Station in Bathinda before transporting him to Assam’s Dibrugarh central jail.

Daljit Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla are among nine of Amritpal’s aides who have been charged under the stringent National Security Act.

According to sources, Amritpal Singh and his associates were sent to the opposite end of the country since North Indian jails are more likely to house gangsters affiliated with him or the separatist movement.

According to sources, another reason preventing the accused from communicating with other detainees and jail employees is the language barrier, and Dibrugarh is a particularly secure prison. Furthermore, they claim that the local Sikh community is hostile to the Khalistan movement.

In its over 170-year history, Dibrugarh Jail has also never had a major prison break incident, adding to its reputation as a very safe prison. The jail’s central location in Dibrugarh is also advantageous for authorities in terms of preventing escape attempts, according to sources, as opposed to a location on the outskirts of town or in distant places.

Since March 19, when four members of Amritpal Singh’s ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) were brought in to Assam, security around the facility has been increased. According to reports, the jail now has 24-hour three-tier security.

Furthermore, according to local media sources, new CCTV cameras have been erected in front of the cells where Amritpal Singh’s aides are being held, and malfunctioning cameras have been repaired or replaced.

A heavily guarded vehicle carrying Amritpal Singh from Assam’s Dibrugarh airport arrived to the prison about 2.20 p.m. today from Bhatinda. According to officials, the Central Jail has a multi-tiered security setup.
