To honour the sacrifices and valour of the Ahom army, the Assam government has recently undertaken several initiatives, including the construction of two memorials, one in Guwahati and the other in Jorhat.
A memorial worth Rs 150 crore will be built on the outskirts of Guwahati, where the Battle of Alaboi was fought in the 17th century between the Ahom army and the Mughals. The main attraction of the memorial would be a 100-foot-tall Hengang (Ahom sword) right in the centre.
‘Alaboi Ranakshetra’ being built at Alaboi, Kamrup at a cost of ₹150 cr over 75 bigha of land and to feature a 100-foot hengdang will be Assam’s glorious tribute to the valour & supreme sacrifice of 10,000 Ahom soldiers martyred in the Battle of Alaboi.

he week-long celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan has begun on a grand note with the march past by Assam Police across all districts.
On November 18, Assam Police, Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces, Indian Navy, Air Force, and National Cadet Corps personnel marched through each district.

To mark the occasion the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary Jatiya Bir Lachit Borphukan, which will take place in New Delhi on November 23rd and 24th.
On November 24, 1966, Lachit Borphukon was born in Charaideo, the first capital of the Ahom kings. He was well-known for his leadership during the battle of Saraighat in 1671, which resulted in the defeat of the Mughal army and a halt to their advance into the region.
In March 2022 President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the year-long celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, commander of the Ahom forces and an icon of Assamese nationalism, on Friday during a three-day visit to Assam. He also laid the foundation stone for the Alaboi war memorial, a memorial to soldiers who fought and were defeated by the Mughals at Alaboi two years before Lachit’s decisive victory at Saraighat in 1671.
