From next week, users of 5G-enabled Apple iPhones will be able to test 5G telecom services – wherever they are publicly available in the country – on both standalone (Reliance Jio) and non-standalone networks (Bharti Airtel). Apple will begin rolling out the long-awaited software upgrades for India’s 5G network to its users next week. The service will be available when Apple releases the iOS 16 Beta software update. Customers on Airtel and Reliance Jio can use Apple’s Beta Software Program to test 5G service on any of the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (3rd generation) models.

Anyone with a valid Apple ID who accepts the Apple Beta Software Program Agreement during the sign-up process is eligible for the Apple Beta Software Program. The Apple Beta Software Program also allows users to test out pre-release software and get a first look at new features before they become widely available.

Users are invited to provide feedback to Apple on quality and usability, which assists Apple in identifying issues, resolving them, and improving Apple software.

Customers of Airtel and Jio who download the iOS 16 Beta software update as part of the company’s ‘Apple Beta Software Program’ can test the service and provide feedback to the company. The final version of the updated software will be available in December.

iPhone users can simply enrol in the Apple Beta Software Program to gain access to the most recent public betas as well as subsequent updates, including the 5G beta, which will be available to Airtel and Jio customers starting next week.

All of the other mobile device manufacturers have also stated that their respective 5G phones will be able to receive 5G by the middle of November (some with beta software), both on standalone and non-standalone networks. According to sources, Samsung’s 5G phones will be available starting November 15.

The latest announcement by the device makers advances the earlier plan of enabling all phones by December. There are over 160 models of 5G handsets available in the country, with over 70-80 million 5G handset users. Already, nearly 125 models have been activated.
