Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, announced the changes in a tweet on Sunday, just days after taking over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.
“The entire verification process is being revamped right now,” Musk said in a tweet, without elaborating on what might change.
According to two people familiar with the situation, Twitter is considering charging for the coveted blue check mark that verifies the identity of its account holder.

Twitter’s new Twitter Blue subscription will currently cost $19.99 per month. Verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark under the current plan. Employees working on the project were told on Sunday that they must launch the feature by November 7th or face termination.
Twitter Blue was launched in 2021 and provides exclusive access to premium features such as the ability to edit and undo tweets. According to the report, users will be required to purchase a Twitter Blue subscription in order to have their account verified. Existing Twitter Blue subscribers will have 90 days to either subscribe or lose their blue tick. At the moment, a Twitter Blue subscription costs $4.99.
According to the report, users would have to subscribe to Twitter Blue for $4.99 per month or risk losing their “verified” badges if the project moves forward.
The CEO of Tesla Inc has not made a final decision, and the project could still be scrapped, but Platformer believes that verification will be included in Twitter Blue.
