According to The Verge, Elon Musk’s Twitter is planning to charge $19.99 (approximately $1,600) for the new Twitter Blue subscription.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, announced the changes in a tweet on Sunday, just days after taking over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.
“The entire verification process is being revamped right now,” Musk said in a tweet, without elaborating on what might change.

According to two people familiar with the situation, Twitter is considering charging for the coveted blue check mark that verifies the identity of its account holder.


Twitter’s new Twitter Blue subscription will currently cost $19.99 per month. Verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark under the current plan. Employees working on the project were told on Sunday that they must launch the feature by November 7th or face termination.

Twitter Blue was launched in 2021 and provides exclusive access to premium features such as the ability to edit and undo tweets. According to the report, users will be required to purchase a Twitter Blue subscription in order to have their account verified. Existing Twitter Blue subscribers will have 90 days to either subscribe or lose their blue tick. At the moment, a Twitter Blue subscription costs $4.99.

According to the report, users would have to subscribe to Twitter Blue for $4.99 per month or risk losing their “verified” badges if the project moves forward.

The CEO of Tesla Inc has not made a final decision, and the project could still be scrapped, but Platformer believes that verification will be included in Twitter Blue.


What does having a Twitter verified account mean?

According to the Twitter help page, the blue Verified badge on Twitter informs users that an account of public interest is genuine. Your account must be notable and active in order to be Verified. Anyone can currently apply for Twitter Verification. The platform divides notable accounts into various categories. Government, news organizations, news individuals and journalists, companies, brands, and organizations, entertainment, sports, and gaming, activists and organizers, and content creators and influential individuals are among them.

How to Get Verified on Twitter?

  1. Check that your profile meets Twitter’s activity requirements.

  3. A popup will appear with more information about verification; click “Start Now.”
  4. Select the appropriate category to tell Twitter who you are.
  5. Show proof that you chose the correct category (e.g., your official website, articles about you, etc.).
  6. Provide an official email address, website, or government-issued ID to prove your identity.
  7. Click “submit” and wait for Twitter to respond.
