Virat Kohli surpassed Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene as the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history (1016 runs in 31 matches). At the start of this match, Kohli had 1001 runs in 24 matches. With a single down the on-side in the seventh over of the Indian innings against Taskin, he broke the record.
With his maiden T20I century against Afghanistan, he set the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in the game’s shortest format (122* off 61 balls). He surpassed Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill to become the highest run-scorer in T20Is at the start of the T20 World Cup.

Not to mention, his undefeated 82 off 53 balls against Pakistan not only managed to win India the game from nowhere, but was also described by many, including India captain Rohit Sharma, as the best T20I innings ever.
Most notably, Virat has twice been named ‘Man of the Tournament’ in the tournament. He was the only player to win the award in both 2014 (319 runs) and 2016 (273 runs).

Kohli came out swinging again in a must-win game against Bangladesh on Wednesday. He began with an uppish cover drive off Taskin Ahmed before flashing the next widish delivery hard enough to clear the slips. Unlike the previous three World Cup matches, in which Kohli took his time adjusting to the bounce and pace of the conditions, Kohli came out with an aggressive intent against Bangladesh.
Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka was the highest run-scorer in ICC T20 World Cup history. In T20 World Cups, he has scored 1016 runs at an average of 39.07. His bat has produced one century and six half-centuries, with a best of 100.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has risen to the top of the ICC T20I rankings, just days after scoring 68 against South Africa in the ongoing T20I rankings. In India’s second match of the tournament, he also scored a half-century against the Netherlands.

Suryakumar Yadav, arguably the best T20 batter in the world right now, has taken the top spot in the ICC T20I batter rankings, which were released on Wednesday. Surya has been one of the most consistent batters in Australia’s ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Surya has so far in the tournament recorded scores of 15, 51*, and 68. He is now the 23rd player overall to top the ICC T20I rankings for batters, and only the second Indian to do so.
