Ruturaj Gaikwad has become the first player in limited-overs cricket history to hit seven sixes in an over. The record for most sixes in an over (overall) is still held by Lee Germon of New Zealand, who hit eight of them in a mind-boggling turn of events in Wellington’s Shell Trophy match.

During a Vijay Hazare Trophy match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, B Ground in Ahmedabad on Monday, Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad became the first batter in limited-overs cricket to score seven sixes and 43 runs in a single over. During the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final match against Uttar Pradesh, Gaikwad hit seven sixes in an over.

Sir Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Haztratullah Zazai, Leo Carter, Kieran Pollard, and Thisara Perera are among those who have hit six consecutive sixes in an over.

In the second quarter-final of the domestic 50-over tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad, the Chennai Super Kings batter hit Shiva Singh for seven consecutive sixes. Gaikwad hit a six off one of the over’s balls, which was a no-ball. Based on his innings, Maharashtra scored 330 runs for five wickets in 50 overs. After batting first, Gaikwad smashed 220 off 159 balls, including 16 sixes and ten fours, to help Maharashtra reach 330/5 in 50 overs.

And Gaikwad’s mayhem in the penultimate over propelled him from 165 off 147 to 207 off 154, his first double-century in List A cricket.

Gaikwad, captaining Maharashtra in the last-eight stage of India’s premier one-day competition, finished unbeaten on 220 off 159 balls, with 10 fours and 16 sixes.

As a result, they finished with a total of 330/5 in 50 overs.
