BYJU’s announced on Friday that football star Lionel Messi has been named the first global brand ambassador of its social impact arm Education For All. “We are honoured and thrilled to have Lionel Messi as our global ambassador. He rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful athletes of all time. That is the type of opportunity BYJU’s Education For All (EFA) programme seeks to provide for the nearly 5.5 million children it currently serves. No one personifies the ability to maximise human potential more than Lionel Messi “Divya Gokulnath, co-founder of BYJU, stated.

Because football has approximately 3.5 billion fans worldwide, and Lionel Messi has a social media following of nearly 450 million, BYJU’s involvement with Messi will increase the edtech firm’s visibility overseas.

“It comes as no surprise that the greatest player of all time is also the greatest learner. I am confident that this collaboration will inspire millions of people around the world to dream bigger and learn more “According to Gokulnath.

Interestingly, cofounder Raveendran is known for his love of football, having played for hours at midnight with his colleagues.

This comes at a time when Byju’s investors were putting pressure on the company to cut costs after it posted the largest-ever loss for an Indian startup in FY21. The loss increased to Rs 4,589 crore in FY21.

Byju’s is also a major sponsor of the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup, which is currently taking place in Australia.
