India is now No. 1 in Asian Women’s Boxing As the women’s contingent won 7 Medal. Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze in Tokyo 2020, defeated Uzbekistan’s Ruzmetova Sokhiba 5-0 in the women’s 75 kg final to win her first Asian Championship gold medal.

Alfiya Khan of India won gold in the 81+ weight category at the Asian Boxing Championship in Amman, Jordan, continuing the dominance of Indian women boxers.

The judges disqualified her final opponent, Jordan’s Islam Husaili, in the first round, effectively ending India’s women’s boxing campaign with seven medals.

 

Saweety Boora, who won silver at the world championships, and Parveen, who won bronze at the 2022 Olympics, won gold, while Minakshi had to settle for silver.

Saweety Boora, who won silver in 2015 and bronze in 2016, defeated Gulsaya Yerzhan of Kazakhstan 5-0 in the women’s 81kg. Parveen, 22, won her first Asian medal in women’s 63 kg, defeating Kito Mai of Japan 5-0.

Minakshi finished with a silver medal in the women’s 52kg division after losing 4-1 to Japanese bronze medalist Kinoshita Rinka, who was competing in the event.

Shiva Thapa, a London 2012 Olympian, will compete against Uzbekistan’s up-and-coming prodigy Ruslan Abdullaev in the men’s final on Saturday.

Thapa, the Asian champion in 2013, also won bronze in 2015 and 2019, as well as silver in 2017 and 2021. He will become the first boxer in history to win six medals at the Asian Championships on Saturday.

Irrespective of Shiva Thapa’s results, India has already secured at least the third-best performance at the continental meet after seven gold medals in 2005 and five gold medals in 2003.
