France vs Morocco FIFA World Cup semifinal 2022: Defenders France appears to be in excellent form since the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022. They have won all of their matches in the tournament so far, with the exception of the Tunisia match. After defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal 1-0, Morocco became the first African country to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

France and Morocco will meet in the second semifinal of the FIFA World Cup on Thursday at the Al Bayt Stadium, where they will face each other for the first time.

Morocco has broken new ground by becoming the tournament’s first-ever African quarterfinalist.

France is one game away from reaching a second consecutive final, becoming the first team to do so since Brazil in 2002. An even longer wait would be ended if the French won the entire tournament, with Brazil (1958 and 1962) being the last team to do so.

The game is also set in a larger historical and political context. Morocco has knocked out one former colonial power, Spain, which ruled over a part of the country in the twentieth century, on its path to the World Cup’s last four. They take on another country that once colonized them in France – until 1956.

One of the reasons for Morocco’s large diaspora in France is its colonial past. In comparison to the North African country’s population of nearly 38 million, approximately five million Moroccans have settled in France. As of 2019, they constituted the second-largest non-European Union immigrant population in France, accounting for roughly 18.4% of the total figure.

France and Morocco have played five international friendlies so far. However, they have never met in the World Cup. This will be their first encounter at the main event.

France defeated Morocco 2-1 in their first meeting in 1988. The two sides did, however, play multiple times in unrecognised matches in the 1960s.

Morocco defeated France in a penalty shootout in a friendly in 1998. Salaheddine Bassir’s brace gave the Atlas Lions a 2-0 lead before Laurent Blanc and Youri Djorkaeff levelled the score. Morocco won the shootout, its only victory over France.
