‘Pokémon’: Pikachu and Ash Ketchum are retiring. The iconic duo will conclude their decades-long quest to become the best Pokémon team in history in a Pokémon episode set to air in Japan early next year.

The Pokémon Company has announced that Ash and Pikachu will appear in 11 more episodes to complete the story of the iconic duo. The Pokémon Company confirmed in a press release that these episodes will include fan-favorite Pokémon and characters such as Misty and Brock, as well as a glimpse into Ash and his Pikachu’s future. These episodes will premiere in Japan on January 13, 2023.

The perpetual 10-year-old has travelled across the country for the last 25 years with a single goal in mind: to become a Pokémon master. The real test was catching them; the cause was training them. With the help of his trusty Pikachu, Ash made friends both human and creature in every region known to man and Pokémon. Indeed, friendship was his top priority, which is why it took Ash 25 years to complete his first quest.

“Ash and Pikachu have had many encounters, battles, and exciting and memorable times,” Pokemon writes on Twitter. But the next season is’the last chapter’. The eleven episodes will premiere in Japan on January 13; when they will air in the Netherlands is unknown.

Liko, the new trainer, takes over Ash’s Pokémon Ball, along with the green cat Pokémon Sprigatito.

The Pokémon Company has officially retired the popular duo, who have been the main characters of the anime for over 20 years, leaving many fans shocked and heartbroken that arguably two characters who have been the face of the entire Pokémon franchise since the 1990s are bowing out.

Following the announcement, a small 11-part mini-series focusing on Ash, Misty, and Brock will premiere on January 13, 2023, as a farewell to everyone’s favourite would-be Pokémon Master. This series, titled “Pokémon Aim To Be A Pokémon Master,” will be the final time fans will see Ash before his journey concludes.
