Every year on November 21, World Television Day is observed. It is a day set aside to recognize the importance and impact of television in our lives. The day honors the concept that television represents rather than television as a technological medium. Television is a symbol of communication and globalization in the modern world. According to the United Nations’ official website, the number of households with televisions is increasing worldwide, despite the fact that screen sizes have changed and people create, share, watch, and consume content on a variety of other platforms.

World Television Day 2022: Significance

In recognition of the growing influence television has on decision-making by drawing attention to conflicts and threats to peace and security, as well as its potential role in sharpening the focus on other important issues, such as economic and social problems, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 21 to be World Television Day (via resolution 51/205 of December 17, 1996)

 

World Television Day: History

The United Nations held the first World Television Forum on November 21 and 22, 1996, where leading media figures met under the auspices of the UN to discuss the growing importance of television in today’s changing world and to consider how they could improve their mutual cooperation. As a result, the General Assembly declared November 21 to be World Television Day.

Today, television has become an essential component of every home. There is information, entertainment, and education available. Television has become an important medium for transmitting cultural ideals. Television has largely shaped culture and public opinion.

Television has a large influence on modern society. The messages broadcast on television have an impact. These messages have an impact on the public’s behavior and mental patterns.
