Guru Nanak Jayanti 2022: Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh faith, was born on the Full Moon Day (Puranmashi/Purnima) in the month of Kattak (Kartik) in 1469 in a village called Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi (now known as Nanaka Sahib), near Lahore (in modern-day Pakistan).
Because the traditional time keeping system is based on the Moon and its apparent movement, this day changes every year in the Gregorian calendar.
Guru Nanak Gurpurab, also known as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak ji’s Prakash Utsav, is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, which is the fifteenth lunar day in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar and usually falls in October or November according to the Gregorian calendar. This year, Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab will be observed on November 8, 2022, as the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
