Baba Ramdev’s obscene comments about women have sparked a firestorm that threatens to turn political. Women, Ramdev said at an event in Thane, Maharashtra, can look good in anything, including sarees, salwar kameez, and “even when they wear nothing.”
Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Women’s Commission, shared the video and said Ramdev should “apologise to the country.”

Ramdev made the remarks at a Friday event. Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, joined him on the dais. Shrikant Shinde, the son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, also attended the event.

“Everyone appears to be having a good time. I wish you the same good fortune. Those in the front were allowed to wear sarees. Those in the back were not given a chance. They most likely packed sarees from home but did not have time to change “In the video, Ramdev can be heard saying while smiling.

“You (all) look stunning in sarees. You look great in salwar suits, just like Amruta ji. And, like me, even if you don’t wear anything, you still look good.”

Women in the audience were seen looking at each other, puzzled.

“You wear clothes to conform to social norms,” Ramdev added, laughing. “Children are not required to wear any. We used to run around naked until we were about eight or ten years old. Only recently have children begun to wear five layers of clothing “He continued.

Swami Ramdev, a chastened Yoga guru, has expressed regrets and apologised for his remarks about women, just 72 hours after they sparked outrage.

In response to her Friday missive demanding an explanation for his utterances within 72 hours, Ramdev sent an email to Maharashtra State Commission for Women Chairperson Rupali Chakankar.

Bheemanagouda Paragonda, an Athani-based lawyer and Congress leader, has filed a complaint against Baba Ramdev for allegedly insulting women in recent comments.
